Sport at Riverside
At Riverside, we have a range of sport on offer to children throughout the year. Some of this is offered as lunch time or curricular Taster Sessions from coaches from Active Stirling, Stirling County Rugby Club, Stirling Albion Football, Cricket Forth Valley and Sports Leaders from Wallace High School. Some sports are also offered through extra-curricular clubs run by school staff.
This session so far, Primary 4 children have enjoyed a Multi-sports Lunchtime Club and 4 weeks of Cricket Tasters with Coach Tony. Primary 5 and 6 pupils have 4 weeks of Cricket Tasters to look forward to in January and April respectively. Primary 2 and 3 children benefitted from 4 weeks of Football Tasters with coaches from Stirling Albion.
Curling on Ice was an experience early on in the session for some Primary 7 pupils with the rest getting this opportunity in the New Year.
Primary 5 pupils performed well during 2 weeks of Sportshall Athletics coaching and 30 pupils went on to represent Riverside Primary at a Wallace Learning Community Athletics Festival. The children used their skills well at this event and came in second place overall!
Primary 6 and 7 girls have been lucky to benefit from a Netball Club held on a Wednesday lunch time since the October holidays. Katie was introduced by Michael McPake our Active Schools Co-ordinator. Katie is in her second year of PE teaching at Moray House. She will join us again at the start of February.
Our sport based Extra-Curricular Clubs have all been well attended this term. These included: - Basketball for P3 and 4, Dance for P4 and 5, Touch Rugby for P5-7, Football for P5 and 6 and Running for P6 and 7 pupils.
The running club will start again on Monday 9th January ahead of a Cross Country event we hope to compete at in February.
